The country’s national gold and jewellery brand, “Eldorado Reimagined”, was launched on Friday, marking a historic milestone in the transformation of the gold sector from raw commodity production to value-added manufacturing and craftsmanship.

The landmark event, held as part of celebrations marking Guyana’s 60th Independence anniversary, also featured the unveiling of the country’s first locally minted Independence commemorative gold medallion, produced entirely in Guyana using 100 per cent locally sourced gold.

The event brought together government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the mining and jewellery sectors, and private sector stakeholders in a national celebration of the country’s evolving gold industry.

Speaking at the launch, President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali described the initiative as a defining moment in Guyana’s economic and cultural development, noting that “tonight represents more than the launch of a brand. It represents Guyana taking ownership of its story, its resources, and its future. For generations, our gold largely left these shores as a raw commodity. Today, we are demonstrating to the world that Guyana is capable of refining, manufacturing, and exporting excellence.”

President Ali said the launch of Eldorado Reimagined reflects the country’s ambition to position itself as a globally recognised hub for high-quality gold products and jewellery manufacturing. “This initiative is about creating value within Guyana, expanding opportunities for our people, supporting local craftsmanship, and building an internationally respected Guyanese gold identity.”

Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat said the launch signals a new chapter for the country’s gold industry, emphasising that “Eldorado Reimagined is the result of a deliberate national vision to move beyond extraction and into value creation. This brand represents quality, authenticity and national pride. It is about reshaping the narrative of Guyanese gold and ensuring that more of the value generated from our natural resources remains within our country.”

He also highlighted the significance of the commemorative medallion, struck in one troy ounce of 0.999 fine gold. “This medallion is not simply a collectible. It is a symbol of Guyana’s progress in the sector. The fact that the gold was mined, refined, designed and minted in Guyana makes this an extraordinary achievement.”

The limited-edition medallion was produced to mark the country’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, with each piece carrying a unique serial number and reflecting emerging local craftsmanship in the sector.

The event also featured a jewellery exhibition showcasing the work of local jewellers and manufacturers, organised in partnership with the Guyana Jewellers Association.

Vice Chairman of the Association, Vead Persaud, described the partnership as an important step forward for the local jewellery industry, noting that it provided “an important platform for Guyanese jewellers to showcase their talent, creativity and craftsmanship alongside a national initiative of this magnitude.” He said the Association was proud to support the development of a stronger, more structured and internationally competitive jewellery sector.

The exhibition also included participation from the Guyana Mining School, highlighting emerging talent and technical development within the industry.

The launch of “Eldorado Reimagined” forms part of broader efforts to establish a modern, regulated and globally competitive gold and jewellery industry aimed at increasing value addition, employment, investment and international recognition for Guyanese-made products.
