Approximately 1,600 letters are being prepared for dispatch to drivers across Guyana as the government moves to intensify scrutiny into the issuance of driver’s licences, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali announced on Friday.
The letters, to be sent by Traffic Chief of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Assistant Commissioner Mahendra Singh, will seek information from motorists regarding how they acquired their licences.
President Ali made the disclosure during an engagement with members of the media at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, Bourda, Georgetown.
The initiative forms part of broader government efforts to investigate the legitimacy of driver’s licences and strengthen accountability within the country’s road traffic administration system.
President Ali also announced that driver’s licence testing is transitioning to a fully digital school platform, where questions are automatically generated through random sampling.
“Nobody would have any question paper two days before. If you go now to write it, 10 minutes after, the questions are completely different,” the president told reporters.
He noted that AI-powered traffic cameras, radar systems, and smart traffic signals are critical components of the government’s broader modernisation agenda. (DPI)
