The commissioning of a new AutoCAD laboratory at Bygeval Secondary School is expected to expand technical and vocational education opportunities for students across several communities in Region Five.
Headteacher Lorrie Lee Farley welcomed the addition, saying the state-of-the-art facility strengthens the school’s existing curriculum, which currently includes eight programmes.
The laboratory will serve students from surrounding communities, including Mahicony, Lancaster, Supply and Ithaca, widening access to technical training in the region.
Speaking at Tuesday’s commissioning ceremony, Education Minister Sonia Parag said the ministry is seeking to expand similar initiatives nationwide.
She said learning is not confined to the classroom and highlighted the importance of hands-on training in preparing students for future careers.
Parag said the facility will move students beyond traditional pen-and-paper technical drawing by providing access to computer systems that enable the creation of 3D digital models and industry-ready skills.
The AutoCAD laboratory is part of a $65 million national programme to establish six specialised labs across Guyana aimed at strengthening technical and vocational education.
