Authorities in Region Ten are expanding education infrastructure with six new school buildings aimed at reducing overcrowding and improving access to quality education across the region.
Regional Education Officer La Shanna Anderson said the education sector has experienced significant growth over the past five years, with an increase in the number of schools and continued investment in learning facilities.
Among the major projects underway is the construction of a new primary school at Wisroc, Phase One B, which Anderson said is intended to address overcrowding at One Mile Primary School.
According to Anderson, One Mile Primary currently accommodates 979 students with a teaching staff of 67 educators, resulting in some classes being conducted simultaneously within the same classroom because of limited space.
She said the new school will provide a safer, more spacious and improved environment for learning upon completion.
The facility is also expected to serve growing communities including Block 22, Wisroc, Wisroc Phases Two and Three, Prosville and developing areas along the Mabura Road corridor, where expanding housing developments and population growth are increasing demand for educational services.
Anderson said the investment represents more than infrastructure development, describing it as an investment in children, families and the future of Region Ten.
She added that reducing overcrowding and improving classroom conditions are expected to strengthen student engagement, improve academic performance and enhance the overall delivery of education in the region.
According to Anderson, Region Ten continues to pursue a vision of ensuring that all learners have access to quality education in modern and conducive facilities.
