Several former opposition Members of Parliament and current regional councillors have joined the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP), the party said on Tuesday following a meeting with its General Secretary, Bharrat Jagdeo.

Those attending the meeting included former Members of Parliament Rickly Ramsaroop, Shurwayne Holder and Dinesh Jaiprashad, along with current Regional Councillors Ravoldo Birbal, Sheik Yaseen, Prince Holder and Gangadai Lloyd.

According to a PPP press statement, the group met Jagdeo at their request and expressed a desire to associate themselves with the party and contribute to national development as the country continues what it described as a period of economic growth and modernisation.

The PPP said the group praised the government’s stewardship of the economy, its governance approach, and ongoing development initiatives across the country. They also commended what they described as the party’s leadership capacity and technical expertise in managing national development and improving living standards.

The statement added that the group contrasted their previous political experiences with what they described as a more inclusive political environment within the PPP.

The party said Jagdeo welcomed the engagement, noting that the PPP remains open and inclusive and works in the interest of all citizens.

The PPP reaffirmed its focus on national cohesion, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that the benefits of development reach all citizens.
