Mindful Guyana Inc. has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Mayor and Town Council of New Amsterdam to collaborate on environmental and community well-being initiatives in Region Six.
The agreement establishes a framework for joint programmes focused on environmental stewardship, mental wellness and community development, the organisation said in a statement.
Planned activities include environmental awareness campaigns, community clean-ups, urban beautification projects and public education on mindfulness, mental health and sustainable living.
The partnership will also support youth engagement initiatives and capacity-building workshops for community leaders and volunteers.
Mindful Guyana said the initiative forms part of a broader national programme aimed at promoting environmental care alongside mental well-being, citing the link between healthy surroundings and healthier communities.
The organisation has also established a regional chapter in Berbice to coordinate activities and engage stakeholders across Region Six.
Founded in response to growing concerns over mental health challenges, including suicide and substance abuse, Mindful Guyana said it seeks to address the impact of social and environmental stressors on well-being.
It also highlighted the connection between poor environmental conditions and both mental and physical health outcomes.
Representatives from both parties said the agreement provides a pathway to address environmental issues while supporting the emotional well-being of residents.
