Linden is in the spotlight with a host of cultural, sporting and entertainment activities as Town Week 2026 continues, marking the town’s 56th anniversary.
The celebrations, which conclude on Tuesday, are being held under the theme: “We Are One People, One Nation, One Destiny – Linden the Heart of Guyana.”
Events began on April 24 and have included community tours, pageants, educational competitions, arts and crafts exhibitions, and sporting activities.
Organisers also incorporated a nursery schools art competition, which officials said was aimed at encouraging youth participation in the festivities.
Representative of the Region Ten Tourism Development Association, Trudy Scott, said the inclusion of children reflects efforts to ensure meaningful youth engagement in the annual celebrations.
Key events during the week included the Main Lime, Wismar Day, Tourism Village, Reggae by the River, Bush Cook, Regional All Black, a senior citizens’ luncheon, Jerk Fest, Clash of the Elites karaoke competition, a Big People Party and a Day of Sports.
The programme also featured the inaugural James “Joelyn” Joseph Road Race, held in honour of the former national cycling and Olympic champion.
