A 37-year-old bodywork technician of Delph Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, is hospitalised in stable condition after he was shot during an armed robbery early Saturday morning.
Police in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ are investigating the robbery-under-arms incident, which occurred around 00:40 hrs at the victim’s residence.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was in his yard conversing with another man when a lone male entered, pointed a suspected firearm at him and snatched a yellow metal chain he was wearing.
The victim and the suspect then became involved in a scuffle, during which the suspect discharged a round that struck the victim to the left side of his chest.
The suspect fled the scene on foot, heading south along Delph Street, and escaped.
The injured man was assisted by residents and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was treated by a doctor on duty and admitted.
His condition is listed as stable.
Police said a 9mm spent shell was recovered from the scene. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed as part of the investigation. The suspect remains at large.
