Two garbage compactor trucks were handed over on Friday to the municipalities of Linden and Mahdia to boost solid waste management and improve service delivery.
The trucks were delivered by Deputy Permanent Secretary Dr. Josh Kanhai, alongside Director of Sanitation Satrohan Nauth and municipal representatives.
The latest distribution brings the total number of garbage trucks deployed nationwide to 63 under a phased programme aimed at strengthening waste collection systems and supporting local authorities.
Trucks have now been distributed to 55 Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) and seven municipalities across the country.
The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote cleaner, healthier communities while enhancing the quality of public services nationwide.
