After two reschedulings, Elton Dharry and Salmin Kassim will finally meet in the boxing ring when the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) hosts its Fight Night on Saturday at the New Pegasus.
During a press briefing held at the Old Pegasus on Thursday afternoon, President of the GBBC, Peter Abdool, expressed his immense pleasure that the bout will now take place.
“Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong for this fight. We had to postpone twice, but we are here now,” Abdool noted.
Dharry was adamant that he is prepared and ready to go, with the possibility of becoming Guyana’s eighth world champion in professional boxing.
“Everybody knows what they get from me. I will respect him in and out of the ring, but when we get in there, I am looking to become champion—and I will become Guyana’s next world champion,” Dharry said.
Kassim shared that he will let his fists do the talking in the ring as he aims to become Tanzania’s first world champion.
Meanwhile, Keevin Alicock and Dexter Marques, who will meet for Guyana’s featherweight title, had a heated exchange, with Alicock urging Marques to put his paycheck on the line.
The Fight Night will feature eight bouts, four of which will be amateur contests. Action in the ring is set to commence at 19:00 hrs on Saturday evening at the New Pegasus.
