
Four persons are in police custody following a robbery under arms on Tuesday night at a business establishment on Mon Repos Public Road, East Coast Demerara, police said.
Police in Regional Division 4 ‘C’ are investigating the incident, which occurred at about 20:48 hrs and involved two Chinese nationals.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were closing their business when four men arrived on two motorcycles. Two suspects reportedly dismounted, one armed with a suspected firearm and the other with a knife, and entered the premises.
The victims were allegedly assaulted and robbed of a cellphone, a suitcase containing clothing, and cash from the business register before the suspects escaped south onto the railway embankment.
Police patrols responded and gave chase, but the suspects escaped into Regional Division 4 ‘A’. A cellphone belonging to one victim was later recovered after being dropped during the pursuit and handed over by a Community Policing Group member.
Acting on intelligence and in coordination with the Guyana Police Force Command Centre, police arrested a 21-year-old security guard, a 22-year-old construction worker of Robb Street, Georgetown, a 25-year-old mason of Werk-en-Rust, and a 19-year-old construction worker.
During searches, ranks reportedly found two suspected 9mm pistols with 18 matching rounds of ammunition, a toy gun, three knives, two XR motorcycles and a quantity of cash. CCTV footage from the business is also being reviewed.
Investigations are ongoing.
