
Twenty-eight-year-old Damion Morgan of Fort Ordinance, East Canje, Berbice, who is accused of discharging a loaded firearm with intent during an attack, has surrendered to police after several days on the run, marking a major development in the ongoing investigation.
The suspect turned himself in at the Central Police Station on April 20, 2026, at approximately 09:40 hrs, where he was informed of the allegations and subsequently arrested.
His surrender comes just over a week after the April 11 incident at Islington Village, East Bank Berbice, which left 27-year-old Vasanti Gordon nursing multiple gunshot wounds.
According to police, initial investigations revealed that Gordon and the suspect, Damion Morgan, were previously in a relationship, but had separated due to his alleged infidelity and physical abuse.
On April 11, 2026, at about 17:00 hrs, Gordon was in her burgundy Primo, PAD 6618, when Morgan reportedly approached her with a black handgun and discharged several rounds, injuring both of her feet. He also allegedly struck her on the head with the weapon and threatened to kill her.
The victim was taken to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital, where she was seen and examined by a Government Medical Officer. Four puncture wounds to the right leg and thigh were observed.
She was admitted as a patient at the hospital.
Investigations are continuing.
