A new $1.053 billion, 3,000ft by 50ft concrete airstrip with two taxiways, parking for three caravans, and navigational lights, along with an $85 million terminal building featuring departure and arrival lounges, police and immigration stations, and VIP facilities, was commissioned today in Karasabai, Region Nine. The project is expected to transform transport and trade for the sub-district and improve connectivity and travel safety for residents.

The commissioning was led by President Dr. Irfaan Ali and Public Works Minister Bishop Juan Edghill. The airstrip, built in 70 days by 60 village residents under the oversight of the Special Projects Unit of the Ministry of Public Works, is constructed with 8-inch thick rigid concrete engineered to a strength of 5,000 PSI, capable of handling multiple flight take-offs and heavy-duty aircraft operations. The terminal building was a donation from International Import and Supplies.
Also attending were Public Utilities and Aviation Minister Deodat Indar, Amerindian Affairs Minister Sarah Brown, Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat, Head of the Special Projects Unit Colin Gittens, and Manager of Hinterland Operations Jeffery Walcott.
