Massy Stores marked the 10th anniversary of its Providence outlet on Saturday with in-store activities, including customer recognition and promotional giveaways.

Shoppers who visited Massy Stores Providence had a chance to win Caribbean Airlines miles, Rubis gas vouchers and hampers.

The milestone came ten years after the Providence location opened on March 17, 2016, as the company’s first outlet in Guyana, reflecting its role in the country’s evolving retail sector.

Over the past decade, the supermarket has grown into one of the country’s busiest retail locations, employing 77 staff and serving around 15,000 customers weekly.

Assistant Vice President and General Manager of Massy Stores (Guyana) Inc., Christpen Bobb-Semple, said the company has contributed to transforming the local retail landscape.

“To see the evolution of retail in Guyana over the past decade and know that we’ve contributed to raising the bar for customer experience is immensely gratifying,” he said.

Customers had access to a wide range of fresh produce, meats, seafood and grocery items, alongside features such as organised aisles, clear signage and self-checkout services aimed at improving convenience.

The store also partnered with local suppliers, supporting the availability of Guyanese-made products.

Store Manager Alicia Spence said the anniversary highlighted the relationships built with customers over the years.

“Our success is a direct result of the relationships we’ve built with our community,” she said.

As part of the anniversary activities, customers who met qualifying spending thresholds were entered to win prizes, with winners expected to be announced on March 27.

Massy Stores operates six locations in Guyana, employing about 500 people, including its most recent outlet at Giftland, which opened in June 2024.
