The joyous celebrations of Phagwah in Region Two culminated with hundreds of residents gathering at the Anna Regina Car Park for the annual Phagwah Mela hosted by the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha Essequibo Coast Praant.
The colourful event brought together families, youths, and cultural groups from across the Essequibo Coast for an evening filled with music, dance, and festive unity. The mela, which serves as the grand conclusion to the Holi festivities in the region, was sponsored by Robert and Associates of the USA.
Regional Chairman Devin Mohan congratulated the Praant for hosting the event and for continuing to preserve and promote the traditions of Phagwah. He noted that the festival goes beyond the throwing of colours, as it encourages togetherness, unity, and a spirit of oneness within communities.
President of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha Essequibo Coast Praant, Pandit Prakash Kaydar Persaud, extended heartfelt thanks to all performers and supporters who contributed to the success of the event. He emphasised that the Praant remains committed to promoting cultural development and providing young people with opportunities to showcase their talents through music and dance.
The programme commenced with a welcome by Ravin Sharma, followed by prayers and a message by Pandit Kaydar Persaud. The evening’s proceedings were coordinated by MCs Simran and Sir Parmanand Singh.
Patrons enjoyed a series of vibrant cultural performances, including dances by Nritya Performing Arts, Blooming Divas, Saraswati Dance Academy, Revishanie Dance Academy, Venita Persaud, Khandhiya Dance Troupe, Anna Regina Secondary School, Dancing Divas, Anuradha Abhinaya Dance Academy, and Devishanie Dance Academy.
Musical performances were delivered by Neil, Pt. Mohan, Sandra Kisson, and Aditya, further energising the festive atmosphere.
The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of the community and reflected the true spirit of Phagwah—celebrating unity, joy, and togetherness—while bringing the Holi festivities on the Essequibo Coast to a memorable close.
