Man, 70, who jumped from hospital window, succumbed to injuries

A 70-year-old man who reportedly jumped from a second-floor ward at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation on Thursday has succumbed to his injuries.

The hospital said the patient had been admitted on February 8 after sustaining a self-inflicted neck injury. He underwent emergency surgery, including repair of a pharyngeal injury and placement of a tracheostomy, and was placed on suicide watch with ongoing psychiatric monitoring.

After the jump at around 12:41 p.m., hospital staff began advanced resuscitation. Despite ventilatory support, blood transfusions, and vasopressor therapy, the patient went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m.

The hospital expressed concern over a recent rise in suicide attempts among vulnerable populations. It said an internal review had been initiated and urged the public to seek mental health support, while extending condolences to the family of the deceased.
