President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, speaking at the commissioning ceremony, said the facility forms part of a broader national drive to invest in people and communities, describing it as an avenue for opportunity and growth.
“This represents opportunity… opportunity for moving forward,” Ali said, adding that modern sports facilities are designed to strengthen youth development and promote national pride.

He said the government remains committed to expanding and upgrading sports infrastructure nationwide, arguing that such investments are critical to nurturing talent and building stronger communities.
Ali reiterated plans to establish a National Sports Academy to provide structured development pathways for athletes from an early age, saying the administration prioritises delivery over promises.

“We deliver every single day… for every Guyanese, every family, every region, every community,” he said.
The president said the stadium is expected to generate economic benefits for Linden, including business opportunities and employment linked to sporting and entertainment events, as well as growth in hospitality and related services.
He also defended the government’s development record, dismissing criticism and pointing to infrastructure projects underway across the country.

“Those who say they cannot see the development… the lights are shining across Guyana,” Ali said.
The Bayroc Track and Field Stadium includes a synthetic athletics track, an integrated football field, volleyball facilities, an aquatic centre, a recording studio and spectator stands.
The project forms part of a wider sports infrastructure programme that includes facilities at Anna Regina, Mackenzie, New Amsterdam and several hinterland regions, aimed at expanding access to modern sporting facilities for young people nationwide.
