Aviation sector moving leaps and bounds
GCAA Director-General, Lieutenant Colonel (ret’d) Egbert Field

The aviation sector is experiencing exponential growth, with increased air carriers boosting seating and travel capacity, infrastructural developments enhancing quality of service, and the expansion of aviation education catering to all aspects of the industry.

This is according to the Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Egbert Field, who provided an update on significant advancements being made in the sector.
“These are thrilling times for aviation because of the exponential growth being experienced.” Field noted that “these include increased airline activity coming to Guyana, an increase in tourism, the confidence of operators in importing new aircraft, increasing their fleet, and adding more personnel to their operations.”

Speaking specifically on Guyana’s capacity, he recognised the recently launched ICAO Next Generation of Aviation Professionals Plus (NGAP+) Programme as essential to sustaining the sector in the long term.
“The NGAP programme will have the intake of over 12 years and 18 year old youths, targeting them for the industry. This will allow the locals, boys and girls, to be exposed to training that is equal or even above that of the international schools.”
The 50-year aviation veteran also recognised the creation of the Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation, headed by Minister Deodat Indar, as a key step towards securing the sector.
He said that under the sector’s current leadership, the aviation industry will continue to move in leaps and bounds.
