Golf at Lusignan is set to intensify with the launch of the National Top Flight Golf League, an eight-week medal tour designed to boost weekly competition and participation at the Lusignan Golf Club.
The league, which begins shortly, will be played every Sunday with an 8:00 am tee-off, except on weekends scheduled for official tournaments. It is open to both members and non-members and will be contested using a full-handicap medal format.
Players will earn points each week based on performance, with eight points awarded to the overall winner, five for second place, three for third, two for fourth and one for fifth. Additional points will be available for the best front nine and back nine scores. A maximum of 12 points can be earned per round.
Standings are expected to remain fluid throughout the tour, with final cash prizes awarded to the top five finishers after eight weeks. Players outside the top five will also receive cash payments based on points accumulated during the league. The overall winner will receive a perpetual trophy.
To ensure fairness, participants will be permitted up to two validated make-up rounds under strict conditions. All scores will be applied to players’ official club handicaps.
Lusignan Golf Club Secretary Chet Bowling said the league provides an opportunity for wider participation, including short-term visitors.
“It’s a great opportunity for non-members, such as expatriates visiting for a short period, to play competitive golf without committing to full membership,” Bowling said. “The initiative also supports handicap improvement and encourages greater female participation,” he said.
The club said the league is part of broader efforts to increase engagement and competitiveness within Guyana’s golfing community.
