ACADO Guyana will open the 2026 chess calendar on Saturday with the National Under-12 Rapid Chess Championships, sponsored through its MOO! Milk brand, the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) said.
The tournament will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the new ACADO building on Heroes Highway, East Bank Demerara, with more than 50 children expected to compete across Under-12, Under-10 and Under-8 age groups. The seven-round Swiss-format event will feature separate boys’ and girls’ championships, played with a 15-minute time control plus a five-second increment per move.
The competition is expected to be closely contested following the exit of defending champions Abel Fernandez and Kataleya Sam, who have aged out of the Under-12 category. Top contenders include Javier Davenand, Vir Narine, Aiden Tinnie and Arian Tinnie in the boys’ field, and Saura Ruplall, Amy Ramphal and Divya Persaud in the girls’ section. Trophies and medals will be awarded across all categories.
