
President Mohamed Irfaan Ali spoke today with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio about recent developments in Venezuela and other regional issues.
Ali praised the U.S. leadership for reaffirming a shared commitment to democracy, freedom, and regional security. He reiterated support for efforts to combat transnational crime, including drug and gold smuggling, as well as narco-terrorism, and stressed respect for the rule of law, free and fair elections, and democratic norms.
Ali also welcomed Rubio’s assurance of continued U.S. support for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The two officials agreed to maintain engagement on the topics discussed and other areas of mutual interest.
