Construction is underway on a truck stop and parking facility in the Grove industrial zone on the East Bank of Demerara, aimed at easing congestion and improving road safety as heavy-duty traffic increases.

Central Housing and Planning Authority Chief Executive Officer, Dr Martin Pertab, who visited the site with engineers, said the location was chosen to keep truck operations away from residential areas. He added that the facility will function not only as a parking area but also as a service hub for heavy-duty equipment.

Dr Pertab urged contractors to complete the project on schedule, noting that performance on current works will influence consideration for future contracts.

He also said similar facilities are planned across the country. During a recent Cabinet outreach in Region Six, President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali announced that two 30-acre sites at Palmyra and Number 76 Village will be developed for trucks and heavy equipment to improve safety and traffic flow.
