In a nail-biting showdown, Santa Rosa Primary School clinched a sensational 3–2 victory over Waramuri Primary to seize the 2025 MVP Sports Under-11 Girls’ Pee-Wee Football title on Saturday evening at the Ministry of Education ground. The electrifying final, attended by Minister of Amerindian Affairs Sarah Browne-Shadeek, showcased the fierce rivalry between the two Region One powerhouses.
Rovena Johnson ignited the excitement with an early goal in the 12th minute, setting the tone for a thrilling encounter. Waramuri’s Atia Marks quickly equalised, sending the teams into the half-time break at 1–1. The intensity ramped up in the second half as Santa Rosa’s Henry unleashed a stunning right-footed strike in the 28th minute, followed just two minutes later by Johnson’s second goal, pushing Santa Rosa ahead 3–1.
In a dramatic twist, Marks converted a penalty in the 39th minute, reigniting Waramuri’s hopes. However, despite their desperate late-game efforts, Santa Rosa held firm to secure championship glory.
In the battle for third place, Marian Academy triumphed 1–0 over St John the Baptist Primary, thanks to a decisive 21st-minute goal from Haley Haberkorn. Johnson emerged as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, netting an impressive 19 goals throughout the competition. Minister Browne-Shadeek praised both schools, describing their performances as a testament to what hinterland communities can achieve when given equal opportunities.
