Woman Deputy Superintendent of the Guyana Police Force, Fiona Fredericks, was today awarded the prestigious title of Best Cop — a rare achievement for a woman in the male-dominated force.
Speaking at the awards ceremony held at the Police Officers’ Mess Annexe, Eve Leary, Georgetown, and attended by the top brass of the police force, including Home Affairs Minister Oneidge Walrond, Fredericks said she was deeply humbled to receive the top prize.
“Being selected as the best cop is a great honour. I am humbled that among some many outstanding officers, I stand today as the 2025 Best Cop of the Guyana Police Force,” the woman deputy superintendent said.
She added: “Knowing that our honourable minister is also a female, a strong woman and accomplished woman, I feel an even deeper sense of pride. Our honourable minister’s leadership inspires every woman in uniform, showing us that women have a rightful place at the highest level of national security. Today, this award comes at a rightful time. As a woman, who is now leading our ministry, is a powerful reminder that we are breaking barriers, shattering ceilings and really defining what real leadership looks like in the Guyana Police Force and the security sector.”
She thanked her team, describing them as frontline warriors who work as a cohesive unit, noting that the award means she has the best team in the Police Force.
The female officer also praised the respect she receives from her male colleagues, the support of her husband, children and family, as well as the community in which she was raised.
“Allow me this moment of personal pride as I dedicate this award to my village Hosororo, the little Amerindian community that shaped me, raised me and taught me resilience. They say that it takes a village to raise a child. We today my village had raised the 2025 Best Cop of the Guyana Police Force.”
Aside from Fredericks, several other officers were honoured for their outstanding performance during the past year. Fredericks reminded them that their service and sacrifices matter and that, as a team, they must always strive to rise and give of their best.
