One Communications Guyana Deputy Chief Executive Officer Richard Stanton has explained that the recent service disruptions affecting mobile customers were due to unexpected challenges arising from a planned technical upgrade and critical system maintenance procedures.

During a meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, convened to discuss the disruptions, Stanton stated that these upgrades are essential for long-term service improvements.

He assured the Prime Minister that following the disruptions, the company’s technical teams were immediately mobilised to resolve the issues.

Prime Minister Phillips, who is responsible for the telecommunications sector, acknowledged the necessity of periodic system upgrades but emphasised that technical challenges must be addressed swiftly to minimise service disruptions for customers. He also underscored the importance of a reliable telecommunications infrastructure for the welfare of citizens.

The Prime Minister’s Office further informed the public, especially those affected by the disruptions, that they can submit formal complaints to the Public Utilities Commission (PUC).

The Prime Minister was joined at the meeting by acting Director of the Telecommunications Agency, Mr. Chinsammy Christmah, and Ms. Yolanda Lamott, who is responsible for technical analysis.
