Linden man fatally struck down by drunk driver

A 53-year-old man died after being struck by a car driven by a drunk driver on Sunday evening in Linden, police said.

Cecil Boston of Central Amelia’s Ward was walking with his wife along the eastern side of the Speightland Access Road when the vehicle, driven by a 28-year-old labourer from the same area, collided with him, throwing him onto the windscreen before he fell onto the road.

Boston was taken unconscious to the Linden Hospital Complex and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was pronounced dead at about 01:05 hrs on Monday.

A breathalyzer test showed the driver had a blood alcohol level of 0.62 per cent, above the legal limit. He has been taken into custody, and the vehicle is held at the Mackenzie Police Station pending examination, police said.

Investigations continue.
