Extradition proceedings against Mohamed’s move forward after full disclosure

Extradition proceedings for U.S.-indicted businessman Nazar Mohamed and his son Azruddin Mohamed advanced on Monday as prosecutors submitted additional documents before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
According to the prosecution, the latest filings now complete full disclosure in the high-profile case.

The Mohameds—operators of the Mohamed’s Enterprise gold trading network—are wanted in the United States on allegations including gold smuggling, wire fraud, and violations of U.S. financial laws, charges first announced earlier this year.
Previous hearings detailed that the U.S. indictment links the duo to multimillion-dollar schemes involving the movement of unreported gold and structured financial transactions.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to the Mohameds’ prominent business footprint in Guyana’s gold sector and their longstanding ties across commercial circles.
Since the extradition request was formally submitted, proceedings have focused on the exchange of evidence and documentation between Guyanese authorities and U.S. officials.
Monday’s session marked another procedural step, with the prosecution confirming that all supporting materials required for the extradition hearing have now been handed over to the defence.
Magistrate Latchman subsequently adjourned the matter to Friday, November 28, when arguments are expected to continue as the court assesses whether the evidentiary threshold for extradition has been met.
