
Five exceptional students from Region Six were honoured on Friday for their outstanding performances at the 2025 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA). The recognition ceremony was hosted by the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce (CCCC) during the official opening of the Berbice Exposition and Trade Fair.
The chamber presented each of the young achievers with trophies, laptops, and cash awards, courtesy of several generous sponsors, in recognition of their academic excellence.
Leading the list of honorees was Adore Barnwell, a past pupil of Skeldon Primary School, who earned an impressive 486.06 marks, securing her place at Queen’s College. She received a trophy and a laptop from D. Sawh Mechanical Workshop, along with a cash incentive from Sita Ghumani.
David Hariprashad of Cropper Primary School followed closely behind with 485.18 marks, claiming the position of Region Six’s second top performer. He was presented with a trophy from Bibi’s Travel Service, a laptop from D. Sawh Mechanical Workshop, and a cash award from Sita Ghumani.
Another outstanding student, Vivek Winjajellum of Cumberland Primary, achieved 485.09 marks and also secured a spot at Queen’s College. His trophy was sponsored by Rambrich Enterprise, while D. Sawh Mechanical Workshop and Sita Ghumani provided his laptop and cash incentive respectively.
Joel Mannu, also of Cumberland Primary, earned 484.17 marks, gaining admission to Queen’s College. He received a trophy sponsored by the Nand Persaud Group of Companies, in addition to a laptop and cash incentive from D. Sawh Mechanical Workshop and Sita Ghumani.
The fifth awardee, Prudence Bhikhai of St. Therese’s Primary School, attained 484.21 marks and will likewise attend Queen’s College. She was presented with a trophy courtesy of Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited, a laptop from D. Sawh Mechanical Workshop, and a cash prize from Sita Ghumani.
Beaming with pride, the students accepted their prizes before a cheering audience, marking a moment of celebration for their families and schools.
The Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce noted that this annual initiative is part of its commitment to recognising and rewarding academic excellence among Region Six’s top NGSA performers.
