Guyana has officially joined Huawei’s global eKit initiative with the launch of its first authorised retail and distribution hub at the Royal International Hotel and Mall in Georgetown — marking a major milestone in the country’s digital evolution.
The new facility, opened on Tuesday, forms part of Huawei’s worldwide push to make cutting-edge technology accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It is designed to deliver affordable, secure and scalable digital solutions to both public and private institutions, aligning closely with Guyana’s national digital agenda.
Huawei’s eKit sub-brand, active in over 100 countries, supports digital transformation through high-speed networking tools, smart classroom technology and intelligent collaboration systems. Its introduction in Guyana signals the country’s growing importance as a technology hub in the Caribbean and Latin America.
At the launch event, Project Manager Janelle Persaud said the initiative reflects more than a commercial investment. “When we first started thinking about bringing Huawei eKit to Guyana, we were driven, of course, by the opportunity to sell devices or technology, but significantly, this investment was a way to position ourselves alongside Guyana’s current transformative trajectory — one defined by connectivity, infrastructure, growth, and possibility,” she said.
Huawei representatives said the new store will serve as a central hub for distribution, technical support and customer engagement, with plans to expand to multiple locations across the country. The hub will offer products such as Wi-Fi 7 access points, full-optical gateways, surveillance systems and smart business solutions for the education, healthcare, hospitality and retail sectors.
Delivering the feature address on behalf of acting President Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, Minister with responsibility for Public Affairs, Kwame McCoy, said the government continues to advance its national ICT strategy to ensure every Guyanese can benefit from modern connectivity. “The establishment of this hub under Huawei eKit will foster greater solutions for businesses and consumers alike. It complements the government’s efforts to improve access to technology and broaden connectivity,” he stated.
The launch also featured product demonstrations, cultural performances and networking opportunities for local tech businesses. The eKit hub is expected to play a key role in supporting Guyana’s drive toward a smarter, more connected economy.
