Guyana encourages formation of consortia to strengthen regional trade with Brazil

Guyana has encouraged the establishment of Public-Private Partnerships and consortia to drive cross-border economic growth, highlighting the Tacama Gold corn and soya project as a successful model of collaboration.

This call came during a meeting held in Lethem on Wednesday between private sector representatives from Guyana and the State of Roraima, Brazil. The engagement, facilitated by the Government of Guyana, focused on strengthening partnerships in agriculture and agro-processing to boost trade and business development in Region Nine.

Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, underscored that such partnerships are vital to reducing the regional food import bill by 2030 and advancing large-scale, value-added production to serve regional and global markets.

Also in attendance were Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulfikar Ally; Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud; GCCI President and PSC Vice Chairwoman, Kathy Smith; Consul General of Guyana to Brazil, Roger King; and other government and private sector representatives.

The Private Sector Commission has expressed its support for these initiatives, noting their potential to foster cross-border collaboration and expand opportunities for Guyanese businesses.
