The World Trade Center (WTC) Georgetown is set to officially open its doors next week, positioning Guyana as a dynamic hub for international business and trade.
Ahead of the launch, members of the media were today given an exclusive overview tour of the state-of-the-art seven-floor facility, which is poised to transform the local business landscape.
Executive Chairman Komal Samaroo shared his vision for the WTC Georgetown as a catalyst for economic growth and global competitiveness.
He emphasised that the centre represents far more than a physical space—but is a strategic venture with the potential to have significant international impact.
The WTC Georgetown will allow Guyanese businesses to connect with over 300 World Trade Centers across the globe, Samaroo explained.
He added that the goal is to help local entrepreneurs become more trade-oriented, economically competitive, and ready to enter the global market.
Samaroo added that one of the key missions of the WTC is to educate and empower Guyanese entrepreneurs.
He noted that by fostering access to training, market intelligence, and networking opportunities, the centre aims to make it easier for businesses to export their products, diversify their markets, and compete effectively on the world stage.
“I say this because at this juncture, where the Guyana economy is, with significant effort to create a more competitive economy– with investment in infrastructure, the agriculture sector, I think what we’re basically trying to do is to create a very competitive economy,” he said.
Executive Director Wesley Kirton echoed this vision, highlighting the enthusiastic response the initiative has already received from local businesses and entrepreneurs.
“There has been a lot of interest so far from local businesses and entrepreneurs,” Kirton noted.
He said the WTC has already entered into Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) that outline collaboration in areas such as training, trade facilitation, and market access.
“We’ve also signed a few MoUs with World Trade Centers in China,” he noted.
Kirton further explained that the WTC Georgetown will serve as a hub for business collaboration and networking, working closely with private-sector organisations to support growth at all levels – from micro-entrepreneurs to established enterprises.
The centre will offer training programmes, facilitate trade missions, and provide platforms for dialogue between local and international stakeholders.
The formal launch of the World Trade Center Georgetown will begin on Sunday with a special welcome reception for overseas guests, followed by a number of activities throughout the week and the official launch ceremony on October 21.
