CH&PA rolling out new system to track housing project efficiency

Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Dr. Martin Pertab, announced the development of a new real-time project tracking framework aimed at boosting efficiency and accountability across the Ministry of Housing’s construction and infrastructure initiatives.

Dr. Pertab made the announcement during site visits along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway and East Bank Demerara corridor, where he inspected ongoing projects and emphasised the need for effective project management. “The purpose is to ensure efficiency on project sites. While efficiency is key, we will not compromise on quality,” he stated.

The new system is designed to monitor construction progress in real time, providing detailed updates on contractors, individual projects, and daily site activity. Officials said this approach will allow for the early detection of potential delays and strengthen oversight of major contracts—particularly “springboard projects” that unlock access to new land and accelerate affordable housing delivery.

Dr. Pertab noted that the framework will support the government’s ambitious target of constructing approximately 8,000 homes annually. He also highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration, including background checks on contractors, to ensure transparency and mitigate inefficiency. “We must adopt a zero-tolerance approach to inefficiency if we are to successfully achieve our mandate,” he added.

The CHPA’s focus on enhanced monitoring aligns with the broader national housing agenda, which prioritizes affordable, quality housing alongside infrastructure expansion to support sustainable community development across Guyana.

By combining site inspections with advanced tracking tools, the Authority aims to maintain close oversight of projects, protect public investment, and deliver timely results for citizens.
