Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo on Wednesday rejected any formal or informal collaboration between the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and either the opposition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) or the WIN party, following the recent Regional Democratic Council (RDC) elections.
Dr Jagdeo instead accused APNU and WIN of collusion, citing evidence of coordinated strategies and joint public statements.
Referring to a claim by attorney and PNC member Darren Wade, Dr Jagdeo said, “He made it clear that he was directed by APNU leaders—and with Norton’s approval—to file cases on behalf of WIN. That’s collaboration, not coincidence.”
According to Dr Jagdeo, both parties sought to undermine the democratic outcome in several regions, particularly Region Four, where the PPP won the plurality of votes but the opposition attempted to manipulate leadership positions.
“The people of Region Four voted for the PPP,” Dr Jagdeo stated, adding: “Yet they tried to deny that will through backroom negotiations between APNU and WIN. That’s not democracy—that’s collusion.”
He said the PPP remains committed to democratic governance and transparency, noting that it will continue to prioritise national development goals such as energy diversification, economic stability, and institutional reform.
“Our approach is guided by what benefits the people of Guyana,” he said, and affirmed: “We remain focused on transforming our economy, strengthening our democracy, and ensuring every project—whether it’s gas monetisation or constitutional reform—works for our citizens.”
