Guyana Defence Force commissions SOC 56 graduates, new officers ready to lead and serve

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has officially commissioned 28 graduates of Standard Officer Course 56 (SOC 56), marking a key step in the development of the nation’s next generation of military leaders.

The commissioning process began today with a solemn church service at the Auditorium, Base Camp Ayanganna, during which the officer cadets received their instruments of commission. The ceremony was attended by senior military officials, family members, and invited guests, all present to witness the elevation of these young men and women into leadership roles within the GDF.

Representatives from the Guyana Police Force and Guyana Fire Service, along with international participants from Belize and Trinidad and Tobago, were among the graduating officers, reflecting the Force’s emphasis on regional cooperation and collaboration in security matters.

SOC 56, which began in early 2024, is designed to develop officers capable of leading units, administering military operations, and upholding high standards of discipline and professionalism. Cadets underwent a rigorous program of physical conditioning, leadership development, military drills, and academic instruction to prepare them for the complex challenges of modern defence and national security.

Following today’s church service, the GDF will host the commissioning parade tomorrow at the Drill Square, Base Camp Ayanganna. The parade will formally recognize the officers’ achievements and provide a public demonstration of their training, discipline, and readiness. Senior officials, family members, and members of the public are expected to attend.

The newly commissioned officers are expected to play critical roles in strengthening the operational capacity of the GDF and contributing to national security initiatives. The SOC 56 commissioning highlights the Force’s ongoing commitment to nurturing capable and professional leaders who will serve the nation with integrity and dedication.
