As part of its series of public outreach activities ahead of Caribbean Statistics Day on October 15 and World Statistics Day on October 20, the Bureau of Statistics visited Giftland Mall last Saturday to engage the public on the role and responsibilities of the Bureau and the importance of data and statistics.
During the outreach, patrons were able to gain a better understanding of the Bureau’s processes for data collection, analysis, and dissemination. Visitors interacted with various types of graphs and charts, offering a hands-on experience of how statistics are used to inform decisions and development.
An interactive quiz tested participants’ knowledge while giving them the chance to win prizes. Students aged 14 to 16 were also informed about the Bureau’s ongoing Essay Writing competition.
“Activities such as these provide us with a valuable opportunity to meaningfully connect with members of the public, who also serve as a vital source of data through our surveys. It allows us to bring awareness to our work and also build trust,” the Bureau stated.
These outreach programs highlight the importance of statistics in national development and aim to strengthen public understanding and engagement ahead of the regional observance of Statistics Day.
