CARICOM welcomes Gaza ceasefire, urges full compliance

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has welcomed the initial ceasefire agreement in Gaza, describing it as a key step toward easing humanitarian suffering and ensuring the safe return of Israeli hostages.

In a statement released Friday, the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM outlined the terms of the agreement, which include a sustained pause in hostilities, withdrawal of military forces, reciprocal release of hostages and prisoners, and immediate humanitarian access. The Community called these measures “constructive and fundamental.”

CARICOM urged all parties to fully honour the agreement and stressed that this first phase should serve as the foundation for a permanent and unconditional ceasefire.

The organization also reiterated its support for a Two-State Solution, emphasizing that a lasting peace in the region must respect the legitimate security and dignity of both Israelis and Palestinians.

The statement highlights CARICOM’s ongoing commitment to international law, diplomacy, and regional advocacy, while monitoring developments in Gaza closely to promote dialogue and cooperation.
