Monument Gardens on Camp and Church Streets was transformed into a dazzling kaleidoscope of light and sound on Sunday evening, as thousands gathered to celebrate “The Festival of Lights,” marking an unforgettable pre-Diwali cultural extravaganza.

Hosted collaboratively by The Indian Commemoration Trust and The High Commission of India, the event officially began at 5 p.m. and delivered on its promise of vibrant cultural performances, rich cuisine, and community spirit.

The evening’s emotional crescendo came with the traditional Lighting of the Symbolic Diyas.

As darkness descended, the lamps, representing the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, were collectively lit.

The soft, unified glow across the main stage and surrounding grounds created a powerful and poignant spectacle, officially ushering in the festive season.
Following the opening ceremony, the cultural segment took centre stage.

Popular dance groups captivated the audience with energetic routines showcasing various forms of classical and contemporary Indian dance.

From the graceful movements of semi classical, Khatak and Bollywood dances, the performances maintained an electrifying atmosphere throughout the evening.

The undisputed highlight of the night was the much-anticipated Sari Parade.

A standout attraction was the Sari Parade, which showcased the beauty and diversity of Indian textiles.

Participants of all ages—including Texila American Medical students, young Broadcast Professionals, and past winners of the Ms. India Worldwide pageant—graced the runway in a stunning display of silks, brocades, and intricate embroidery.

The parade became a moving tapestry of colour, artistry, and tradition.

Beyond the main performances, attendees engaged with a host of attractions. Guests admired the intricate, eye-catching Stunning Rangoli Displays—patterns created on the ground with coloured flowers.

Interactive booths offered everything from Henna Design to fun games, and the aroma of Hot Indian Savoury Snacks and authentic Indian cuisine permeated the air, ensuring a complete sensory experience that celebrated the rich flavours synonymous with the festival.

The overwhelming success of the event underscored its significance as a unifying cultural fixture in the local calendar.
