President Dr. Irfaan Ali has emphasized that policies governing Guyana’s oil revenues must prioritize social equity, ensuring that no group, village, or hinterland community is left behind.
Speaking to members of the business community at the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (GCCI) inaugural Energy Insights Breakfast, the President stressed that economic growth is only meaningful when it improves the lives of citizens.
“Because development is not real until it is inclusive. Development is not measured by barrels of oil pumped, but by the dignity of lives uplifted,” he said.
Guyana’s oil sector, which began commercial production in 2019, has rapidly transformed the country’s economic landscape.
Revenues from oil production have already been allocated to critical infrastructure projects, social services, and community development initiatives across the country.
President Ali noted that the government’s approach to managing oil wealth is guided by a vision of sustainable development and equity.
The aim is to ensure that oil revenues translate into tangible improvements in key areas such as education, healthcare, and livelihoods, reaching all regions of Guyana, including remote hinterland communities.
