A new visual identity has been unveiled for the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, with Reon Devonish emerging as the winner of the Ministry’s official Logo Competition.

The contest drew participation from more than 200 entrants, showcasing the creative talent within the country.

The Ministry praised Mr. Devonish’s design for capturing its vision and mission with “powerful symbolism.”

In its Facebook post, the Ministry explained: “The handshake reflects partnership and collaboration between the Ministry, local authorities, and citizens all over Guyana. At the heart of the logo, the puzzle pieces represent the interconnected pillars of the environment, agriculture, sustainability, infrastructure, health, education, and the people of Guyana. The map underscores our responsibility to every corner of Guyana and to every citizen, while the use of gold signifies the high standards of quality and service we are committed to upholding. We congratulate Mr. Devonish on his outstanding work and thank more than the 200 participants for their creativity and contributions to this important initiative.”

Minister Priya Manickchand also celebrated the announcement on social media, writing: “We have a logo now!!! ”

For Devonish, the win was a surprise. “It was unexpected. I just entered it on whim. I challenged myself to open Illustrator and create something from scratch. It was baffling because I didn’t expect something that I used to test how far I came as a designer by putting together something from scratch, to win,” he said, speaking to Ignite News on Wednesday evening, moments after the announcement was made.

At 25 years old, Devonish has been working in the design field for about seven years, and while he has previously participated in competitions of this nature, this marks his first win.

The victory also earned him a cash prize.

The new logo will now serve as the Ministry’s official visual identity, appearing on communications, public materials, and outreach initiatives.
