Success man jailed for stealing car, truck tyres

A 52-year-old labourer of Success, East Coast Demerara, was on Tuesday sentenced to six months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to a charge of simple larceny.

Anthony June, called “Rubber,” was accused of stealing eight car tyres and four small truck tyres, valued at $253,000, from businessman Fizul Basirali.

The theft reportedly occurred between September 11 and 18, 2025, at Success.

Police arrested June on September 19.

He was formally charged on September 29 with simple larceny, contrary to Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 08:01.

On September 30, at about 09:30 hrs, June appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court #1, where the charge was read to him.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months in prison.
