Director General of the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development (MLGRD), Anand Persaud, along with Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration), Dr. Josh Kanhai, on Monday visited the Patentia/Toevlugt Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) and Health Centre to assess their operations.

This is according to a press statement released by the Ministry this morning.

The visit was part of the Ministry’s ongoing review of service delivery within its jurisdiction, following earlier inspections by Minister Priya Manickchand that identified deficiencies at other health centres.

At the NDC, officials found the office to be fully staffed, with a functional health desk and an active single window system operated by trained personnel. Services have been temporarily relocated to the Bellevue Sports Complex due to reconstruction work on the NDC building.

The Health Centre, however, continues to face operational challenges. These include a shortage of stationery for patient records, the absence of an autoclave machine that was promised over a year ago, and limited access to chronic disease medication. Officials noted that while requests are made for about 6,000 units of medication, only 2,000 are supplied.

The Ministry said it is taking steps to address these concerns to improve services for residents.
