The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) today marked Caribbean Youth Day 2025, recognising the vital contributions of young people across the Region, whose energy, creativity, and resilience are driving social, cultural, and economic progress.
In a statement, CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett highlighted the central role of youth in shaping a sustainable and inclusive Caribbean.
“As we mark this special day, I urge all stakeholders, governments, civil society, the private sector, and our youth themselves, to renew their commitment to creating an environment where young people can contribute to and participate in decision-making processes, and lead initiatives for positive change. Their voices, perspectives, and actions are crucial in shaping a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Caribbean,” she said.
Across the Caribbean, young people are championing climate resilience, promoting social equity, and driving digital innovation while fostering cultural pride.
Their vibrant participation at CARIFESTA XV in Barbados last August exemplified the talent and creativity of the Region’s youth on a regional and global stage.
In support of youth development, CARICOM has revised the Caribbean Youth Development Plan (CYDAP) to reflect evolving realities and aspirations, and is establishing a Regional Youth Development Structure to facilitate meaningful engagement and bridge the intergenerational gap.
Dr Barnett emphasised that investing in youth skills, talents, and aspirations is fundamental to achieving regional goals of sustainable development, social justice, and integration. “Our young people are vital partners in development,” she said.
CARICOM, established in 1973 and comprising fifteen Member States and six Associate Members, remains committed to building an integrated, inclusive, and resilient Community where every citizen can realise their potential.
Happy Caribbean Youth Day 2025!
