Youth empowerment initiative launched with visit to East Ruimveldt

The Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning has launched a series of outreaches, commencing with the community of East Ruimveldt.

The initiative, spearheaded by newly appointed Minister Keoma Griffith, is geared toward ensuring impactful engagements, with a specific focus on youth empowerment and upliftment.

Griffith, who hails from East Ruimveldt, met with residents over the weekend and expressed delight in being able to extend transformative services to the community he once called home.

“I am happy to be starting in this community,” the minister stated. He said that traditionally East Ruimveldt has had its ups and downs, but he hopes to bring valuable transformation that residents can see and appreciate.

Residents also welcomed the empowerment initiative, highlighting the much-needed assistance required by youths in the area.

Vanessa Skeete called the programme a good idea. She wished, however, that more young people were available to meet the new minister during his walk-through. “I think our young people really need the help… and I think the minister is doing a good job being here today.”

Colin Sealy praised the new minister for his engagement with the community, noting that it was not often officials visited the area with such transformational initiatives.

“Now that Keoma is in office, he is from East Ruimveldt, this is a very good initiative he has started and I am very much proud of him,” Sealy stated.

Residents were reminded to utilise the Labour Ministry’s job bank portal, where they can upload their CVs and other qualifications to gain direct access to jobs and employers.

The ministry said that the job bank is a fully online platform responsible for improving jobseekers’ access to employment opportunities from the comfort of their homes or anywhere with an internet connection, at no cost.
