A young mother is mourning the death of her daughter, five-year-old Supriya Khan, a pupil of Parika Back Primary School, who died Friday afternoon after an accident on the Parika main road.
Her father, 32-year-old Imran Khan, had just picked her up from school when their electronic bike was struck by an overtaking motor car. Supriya succumbed to her injuries, while her father remains hospitalised, unaware of his daughter’s death.
“The doctors told us not to tell him, because of the condition he is in. He thinks that she is home and she is okay,” a tearful Ramona Rackbar told Sonia Parag, Minister of Education, on Sunday morning.
The mother is grappling with the loss and the reality that her five-year-old son will grow up without his big sister.
Minister Parag expressed her condolences, assuring the family that the government, particularly the Ministry of Education, is keeping them in its prayers.
“The pain you’re feeling is unimaginable, but you have our love and our support. You and your family are not alone,” the minister said.
Chief Education Officer Saddam Hussain also visited the family to offer condolences and pledged that the Ministry would maintain contact to provide ongoing support.
