Twenty-four prefabricated homes have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries at the Yarrowkabra Homestead Project along the Soesdyke–Linden Highway, officials said on Sunday.

The project, visited earlier by Minister of Housing Collin Croal and Minister within the Ministry Vanessa Benn, is part of the government’s broader effort to deliver affordable, modern housing solutions. Each unit, costing $6.5 million, forms part of President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s $6 billion housing initiative, which aims to build 500 sustainable homes along the highway.

The Yarrowkabra Homestead Project combines residential development with agricultural production and renewable energy, including shade houses and solar power systems, with a focus on single mothers and women-led households.

Infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and electrical networks is advancing to support the new community. The first set of homes under the initiative is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The homes are being constructed by Duravilla Homes using modern building techniques and a mix of local and sustainable materials to ensure durability, style, and environmental responsibility.
