The Ministry of Housing and Water is set to open its new Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) headquarters at Plantation Houston, East Bank Demerara, by the end of the year.
Housing Minister Collin Croal and Minister within the Ministry Vanessa Benn toured the construction site along with CH&PA Deputy Director of Projects Intakab Indarjeet and engineers, who reported that finishing works are underway.
The two-acre site will feature a modern building measuring 150 by 105 feet, parking for more than 100 vehicles, and space for about 400 employees.
“With the new commitments outlined in our manifesto, more work is expected of the Ministry,” Croal said. “That requires additional human resources, and by bringing all departments together under one roof, we will be able to deliver services in a more timely and convenient way.”
Benn, making her first site visit since her appointment, said: “Our aim is to serve the public in a way that is efficient, comfortable, and user-friendly. I can see that this project has been designed with that vision in mind, and the progress so far reflects that commitment.”
The new facility will replace scattered annexes and allow residents to access services in one location. Staff relocation will begin once construction is completed.
