The man accused of brutally murdering his reputed wife, 36-year-old Alisha “Tito” Narine, at a sawmill compound in Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice, died on Sunday afternoon.

He reportedly committed suicide while trying to escape from police. A bottle with liquid was found next to him

Police reported that Ram Singh, who shared a 15-year common-law relationship with Narine and was the father of her two children, aged 15 and 8, was found hiding in a sideline trench about 360 feet from the scene. He was taken into custody and rushed to the No. 75 Village Regional Hospital, where he was treated and admitted under police guard. However, at approximately 14:30 hrs, Singh succumbed while receiving medical care.

Earlier that morning, between 09:30 hrs and 10:00 hrs, Narine was attacked in the sawmill yard where she lived with Singh. Investigators revealed that she had been on a WhatsApp video call with her cousin, U.S.-based Taramattie “Vanessa” Joseph, when Singh approached from behind wielding a cutlass.

Joseph told police that she saw Singh seize the phone and declare, “Today, today I will murder her,” before cutting the call. Alarmed, she immediately contacted relatives in Guyana.

Shortly afterward, Narine’s 18-year-old daughter, Felisha “Tanoja” Narine, was alerted by a neighbour that her mother was under attack. Upon arriving at the scene, she found her mother’s body lying motionless with multiple chop wounds and promptly reported the incident to the Springlands Police Station.

Police later located Singh

Both bodies are currently at the Skeldon Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem examinations.
