A number of the nation’s first-time voters expressed excitement as they became part of the voting population and were able to exercise their right in electing who manages the affairs of the country.
Eighteen-year-old Kenneth Edwards, who voted at the Belair Primary School, described the voting process as “quick and easy” and presented “no hassle.” He told Ignite News that the excitement of voting for the first time was very much palpable.
“Last night I couldn’t even sleep; it was so exciting to come and cast my vote for the first time and especially exercising your right in this democratic society; it’s beautiful,” Edwards shared.
Athaliyah Felicien, an 19-year-old first-time voter, cast her ballot at the Westminster Secondary School. She said initially she was not keen on voting, but that soon changed when she realised the difference she could make.
“At first I did not want to vote, but knowing the fate of my country lies in my hand, I pushed myself and here I am now.”
Mcale McRae, of Amelia’s Ward, Linden, also cast his ballot for the first time. He reported how good it felt to be making an input in the direction of the country. He said the process was smooth, with the GECOM officials providing clear guidance as to what must be done at the polling station. McRae hoped for a smooth end to the election process.
“I hope that all votes are counted and everything goes well and honestly, just praying that this year they get it right.”
Sharing his views, Sophia resident Jude Wilson, who voted at the ‘A’ Field Sophia Primary, described the process as fun and practical. He said it was exciting to cast his vote and encouraged all young persons to exercise their right during the election period.
“I think every young person deserves to vote and deserves to have a change to vote,” Wilson urged.
Voting will conclude at 6:00 pm today.
