Norton ‘talks up’ livestock plan in Mahaicony

APNU presidential candidate, Aubrey Norton

The A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) took its election campaign to Zeskinderen, Central Mahaicony, with promises of development in agriculture, housing, education, and infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, the party’s presidential candidate, Aubrey Norton, said APNU has a number of plans it will implement once elected, which citizens will benefit from—particularly in the area of agriculture.
“We’re saying to you that we believe there are enough resources in this country that can be utilised to advance agriculture and uplift the people in the communities,” he noted.
“We’re saying to you that you could look forward to a national livestock development plan so that those who are involved in livestock farming can develop,” he added.
According to Norton, this livestock development plan will assist in improving the livelihoods of residents engaged in livestock farming.
“We will provide the support that is needed. Many of you might be old enough to remember that years ago we used to have agricultural assistants coming around and helping you in agriculture. We are going to return agricultural assistants to be able to help poor people who are involved in agriculture,” he said.
Norton added that the party views the resuscitation of agriculture in the community as critical for development.
He also shared key aspects of APNU’s manifesto plans, including an increase in the minimum wage and a 35 per cent rise in wages and salaries for public servants, noting that with oil development this will be easier to achieve.
