The A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) brought its election campaign to Agricola last evening, delivering promises of better wages, safer communities, and greater wealth to supporters.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Paul Williams stressed the community’s important role in Guyana’s development, pledging that APNU would restore Agricola to its former glory while outlining the party’s plans for national progress if elected.
“We have declared and our leader has signed a pact to say definitely – we’re committed to ensure that there’s a 35 per cent increase for all public servants and even the private sector workers. We are to ensure that our pensioners be given a $100,000 a month,” he noted.
A former Deputy Commissioner of Police with 38 years of service in the Guyana Police Force, Dr Williams also addressed the issue of police reform, assuring that APNU would tackle problems relating to unlawful interactions between police and civilians.
“We gonna ensure that you have a Police Force that can relate to you, that can solve your problems from a community perspective and to know definitely how to relate to you. I want you to know that everything that is happening, we have been taking notes of it. At no time, at no stage on our next opportunity being given under the leadership of Aubrey Compton Norton we gonna neglect Agricola,” he said.
Dr Williams further highlighted aspects of APNU’s manifesto, including a rent-to-own housing initiative, expanded youth training opportunities, and a $50,000 monthly incentive for university students. He also emphasised that, once elected, APNU would advance the agriculture sector to sustainable levels and advance the development of the non-oil economy.
